Nature Camp

Tucked away in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Rockbridge County rests Nature Camp, a rare and special place located in the George Washington National Forest near the small town of Vesuvius, Virginia. For 70 years, the camp has been committed to educating youth about their place on Earth and the environment in which they live. Born as a vision in the collective minds of the Conservation Committee of the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs in 1941, Nature Camp now occupies six acres of land as it operates four overnight summer camp sessions for children and one session for adults.

Unlike other summer youth camps, Nature Camp’s program – which combines rigorous, yet informal and engaging instruction in natural history with outdoor recreation – offers a truly unique experience for campers and parents alike. Centered around in-the-field academic classes on topics ranging from herpetology to botany, these campers learn environmental skills, while developing a sense of connection to and love for the natural world.
