A. Stuart Craig of Richmond, VA, departed this life at his own hand on July 13, 2014. He was the son of Ann Craig Nelson and the late G. Lewis Craig.
He attended Nature Camp in the ‘70s, graduated from Waynesboro High School and Virginia Tech. He spent his entire career in the banking industry. He loved everything about nature—plants, flowers, the sunrise, and loved looking at stars. His favorite place in the world was at Wintergreen in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Stuart was brilliant. He was a finance guy who wrote poetry, painted watercolors, was a gourmet cook, and loved plants and gardening. He also loved martial arts, and enjoyed Eastern philosophy and meditation. He was in recovery and had been sober for 3 years. To watch him play golf was a thing of aching beauty. A patient golf coach, he could improve anyone’s game in a few short hours.
He is survived by his mother, Ann, his teenage son Maxy, and his loving friend Julia Groom. Julia established a Memorial Scholarship in Stuart’s name and requested that memorial gifts on his behalf be sent to: The Nature Camp Foundation, PO Box 265, Studley, VA 23162, or www.naturecampfoundation.org/support/donate to establish a scholarship in Stuart’s name at Nature Camp in Vesuvius, VA.
